Porterville, CA - The City of Porterville will hold an unveiling ceremony for the new Washington Monument at Veterans Park on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:00 AM. The ceremony will also include the dedication of a Revolutionary War Patriot Marker by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
The monument was developed in conjunction with the City's 2026 commemorations recognizing the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 100th anniversary of Porterville becoming a charter city. In recognition of these milestones, the Porterville City Council approved a monument at Veterans Park that would serve as a lasting tribute to George Washington and complement the City's commemorative activities throughout the year.
The new monument features a 16-foot replica of the Washington Monument and includes lighting. The monument includes four bronze plaques depicting significant periods and events in American history.
As part of the ceremony, the DAR will dedicate a Revolutionary War Patriot Marker. The marker will further recognize the individuals and history associated with the American Revolution and complement the City's observance of the nation's 250th anniversary.
The community is invited to attend the ceremony and be part of this special occasion as Porterville comes together to unveil the new monument and honor our nation’s founding.
