Porterville, CA - The City of Porterville will be hosting its annual Military Banner Ceremony on Friday, May 22, 2026, beginning at 12:00 PM at Centennial Park (296 N. Main Street). The City’s Military Banner Program began in 2016 as a way to honor both past and current military personnel for their service to the nation and the community. The Ceremony will recognize the individuals that will have banners installed in their honor for the 2026 application year. This year there will be fifty-three (53) individuals who will be recognized at the Ceremony and will have their banners raised prior to Memorial Day.
The Military Banner Program allows families or individuals to nominate a military hero to be honored with a display, beginning on Memorial Day weekend each year. The Program is a way to express gratitude to the City’s hometown heroes and has had great community participation and support over the years. Counting this year’s honorees, the program will have recognized over 1,000 individuals from our local community. There have been honorees from every branch of the military and include Veterans from as far back as World War I to those who are currently serving in active duty. In support of this event, the Porterville City Council has authorized the temporary closure of Main Street between Thurman Avenue and Cleveland Avenue from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM for the Ceremony. For more information about applying for the Military Banner Program or to see a full list of honorees, please visit the Parks & Leisure page on the City’s website at www.ci.porterville.ca.us.
