Porterville, CA – The City is providing an update on the Westfield Avenue improvement project spanning Westwood Street to Lombardi Street. This segment of roadway was closed earlier this summer to allow for the installation of underground utilities, as well as curb, gutter, and roadway reconstruction. The project was originally scheduled for completion at the end of November; however, recent weather conditions have caused unavoidable delays.
Heavy rainfall over the past several weeks saturated the soil, creating soft spots and areas of water pumping that required additional time to dry before paving could safely begin. The drying period has taken longer than anticipated due to consistently cold temperatures.
If temperatures remain favorable, paving is scheduled to take place this Wednesday (12/10/25) and Thursday (12/11/25). Once paving is complete, Westfield Avenue will reopen to traffic with temporary striping in place.
During the winter school break, crews will return to adjust utility covers—including water valve lids and storm drain manholes—to final grade and place concrete collars around them. Final striping will also be completed during this period. All remaining work is expected to be finalized before school resumes in the second week of January 2026.
The City appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to complete these improvements safely and efficiently.
