We’re excited to spotlight one of our outstanding members, Tule River Economic Development Corporation (TREDC), for receiving a $1.6 million grant as part of Governor Newsom’s California Jobs First Council initiative. TREDC is among 14 tribal organizations selected to receive a portion of the $15 million in funding, dedicated to supporting economic growth, workforce development, and clean energy innovation in tribal and disadvantaged communities across California.
TREDC is a federally chartered Section 17 corporation wholly owned by the Tule River Tribe of California. With this funding, the organization will launch a powerful new initiative aimed at transforming the future of clean energy and transportation across the state starting right here in our own community.
Their project focuses on three key objectives:
Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Retrofits & Training: TREDC will provide financing for community-led ZEV retrofits and create hands-on training programs for technicians, helping build a skilled workforce ready to support the clean transportation sector.
Clean Energy Career Pathways: By expanding access to training and career opportunities, especially in rural and tribal areas, TREDC is helping pave the way for a new generation of professionals in the clean economy.
“Powered by Solar” Mortgage Program: This innovative program will offer forgivable financing for tribal and low-income households, helping make solar-powered homeownership a reality for more families.
These initiatives don’t just represent a financial investment—they mark a meaningful commitment to sustainability, equity, and economic empowerment. TREDC is leading the charge toward a cleaner, more inclusive future, creating opportunities where they’re needed most.
As Governor Newsom shared in his statement:
“California is proud to partner with tribes across the state to support good jobs and expand economic opportunity in a meaningful and lasting way.”
We couldn’t agree more. Congratulations to Tule River Economic Development Corporation on this incredible achievement. Your work continues to inspire and uplift the region and we’re honored to have you as a member of our Chamber community.
